[00:00:55] Luke Storey: So when I first, uh, you know, I've been into C60 for quite a long time. Uh, [00:01:00] tried a few different brands over the years, and when I heard from you guys about doing a podcast, I, I was aware of your brand. I might have tried it, but it wasn't, like, in my regular, uh, rotation. So I was like, "I don't know. There's a lot of people on the C60 bandwagon, and a lot of them are probably cutting corners, or else they're just incompetent."

[00:01:17] Luke Storey: So my first move was to text my friend Ian Mitchell from Wizard Sciences, 'cause he's a really big C60 fan. I was like, "Is this guy legit? What's up?" And immediately he answers like, "Oh, yeah, he's the, he's the OG in the business. He's trustworthy. His stuff is, is the best," you know? Which was cool coming from someone who also makes a, I guess you could say-

[00:01:37] Luke Storey: I don't believe in competition because there's so many people on the planet that need help. But, um, that was, that was how you got here. He vetted you, so we can thank Ian for that.

[00:01:46] Chris Burres: I, I would've said the exact same thing about him. Like, I, I have so much respect for him. He's a, just a fantastic scientist and, and human being.

[00:01:54] Chris Burres: Like, I don't know. Apparently you've spent some- Yeah,

[00:01:56] Chris Burres: out quite a bit ... so you know. Like, he's just a fantastic person.

[00:01:59] Luke Storey: [00:02:00] Yeah. He's one of those rare combinations of huge heart and huge brain.

[00:02:04] Chris Burres: Mm. Yeah.

[00:02:05] Luke Storey: You know? He, it's not that often you get both of those in one person. Yeah.

[00:02:10] Chris Burres: Yeah, no, he's-

[00:02:11] Luke Storey: At least me, I'm hanging around the wrong kind of people.

[00:02:13] Luke Storey: But, you know, he, he is, he truly cares about people. Um, he's just a very open-hearted, compassionate guy, and he's a massive brainiac. Yeah. I mean, that dude will just run circles around you with science and data.

[00:02:24] Chris Burres: And, and everything, ba- basically everything, you know? Yeah. He was doing, um, w- kind of neuro s- s- his parents had him doing, um, what is it, neuro programming kind of early on, right, where his neurofeedback- Oh, yeah, yeah

[00:02:38] Chris Burres: um, like, you know. I haven't played with that yet. It's on, it's on my radar to, to mess around with that. I've

[00:02:43] Luke Storey: done a lot of it. We were talking about, uh, you know, PTSD and stuff like that- Mm ... whether micro or macro, and, um, neurofeedback helped me a lot with that. You know, just upregulating the brainwaves that feel good and downregulating the ones that don't.

[00:02:57] Chris Burres: Is there a device that you kind of would lean on at [00:03:00] this point? Or-

[00:03:00] Luke Storey: Um, I've gone to a couple different intensives. One was at the Biocybernaut Institute in Sedona years ago, and then I recently went to, um- Oh my God, Jared, what's Nevada City where I went with, uh oh, that's so embarrassing. I spent a week there, just slipped my mind.

[00:03:20] Luke Storey: Jared will find it. Yeah. Um, so I've done like two week-long intensives. Wow. And then, um, there's a, there's a home device called the Sensay.

[00:03:29] Chris Burres: Mm. Yeah, I've, I've see- Um ... I've looked at that a

[00:03:31] Luke Storey: little bit. It's cool. Um, I think I'm... I don't have the patience for the connectivity. Mm. You know? So I, I was using it pretty consistently, and then I just was having a hard time getting a signal, so I fell out of it.

[00:03:42] Luke Storey: But, um, I still have it. Pro- I probably just need new sensors-

[00:03:46] Chris Burres: Mm.

[00:03:46] Luke Storey: Yeah ... or something, you know? 'Cause I was doing it so much. But yeah, I love neurofeedback. But anyway, enough about me.

[00:03:51] Chris Burres: Uh, uh, anyway, fascinating subject. I will, I will get there at some point. "

Today's show notes will be lukestory.com/c60. So how'd you first get into, uh, the longevity and anti-aging and health space?

[00:04:14] Chris Burres: Okay, what an interesting story because, um, eight, nine years ago, if you had said, "Hey, Chris, you're gonna be in the longevity space.

[00:04:22] Chris Burres: Hey, Chris, you will have done a longevity summit called Uncovering the Secrets of Longevity. Uh, got to interview 57 experts in longevity, inclu- including, like, Dave Asprey, Ben Greenfield, Dr. Steven Gundry. Um, you're gonna have a podcast called Live Beyond the Norms. You're gonna have written a book," I literally would have said, "B- yeah, I think you got the wrong person.

[00:04:43] Chris Burres: Like, I'm, I'm... I don't know how I'm gonna get from where I am to that place." And what really drove it is this amazing molecule, right? So I mean, w- we'll go way back. Um, molecule was discovered in 1985 at Rice University. That's where we're [00:05:00] based, in, that's based in Houston, where we're based, and the three scientists who discovered it went on to win the Nobel Prize for the discovery of this molecule.

[00:05:08] Chris Burres: So, uh, the reason they won the No- the, the Nobel Prize is 'cause the molecule is absolutely amazing. It performs as well or better than the current best material in almost every application, so it makes better inks, better batteries, better tires, better photocells. This is often where people get nervous about a health supplement.

[00:05:26] Chris Burres: Probably... I mean, you're, you, you've got a pretty open audience, but probably nobody was like, "I wonder what part of my car battery I should, should be taking on a daily basis." I heard it's

[00:05:35] Luke Storey: a great antioxidant, yeah.

[00:05:38] Chris Burres: So, uh, and then the story does get a little bit worse. One of the shapes on the exterior of this molecule, and, and by the way, we call it ESS60.

[00:05:45] Chris Burres: I'm sure we'll get into why we make that distinction. But one of the shapes on the exterior of this ESS60 molecule is the same shape as benzene, so not the same formula, but the same shape, and there's 20 of those shapes on the exterior of this cage. [00:06:00] Uh, and, and by the way, for anyone just listening, 'cause that might be happening, what, the model that I'm holding up is the model of the ESS60 molecule, and the best way to picture it is to imagine a soccer ball where the lines on the soccer ball represent the bonds between the carbon atoms.

[00:06:14] Chris Burres: So you have a spherical molecule of 60 carbon atoms. And again, 20 of the shapes on the exterior, kind of the panels on the soccer ball, are the same shape as benzene. Well, benzene's ubiquitous in our society, right? We don't have modern society without benzene. Just as an, an e- an example, look around you.

[00:06:32] Chris Burres: Everything that's plastic, gone without the benzene ring. Many medications, including aspirin, benzene ring is the foundation. So we don't have modern society without it, but when benzene is on its own, it's known to be toxic and known to be carcinogenic. So that shape 20 times on the exterior of this soccer ball-shaped molecule, they thought it would be toxic.

[00:06:52] Chris Burres: They put it in a toxicity study, and instead of being toxic to test subjects that they gave it to, in this case Wistar rats, lived [00:07:00] 90% longer than the control group.

[00:07:02] Luke Storey: That's so nuts.

[00:07:04] Chris Burres: Right. The single longest longevity experimental result on mammals in history, peer review published record. To this day? To this day still, yeah.

[00:07:12] Luke Storey: What?

[00:07:13] Chris Burres: A 90%

[00:07:14] Luke Storey: extension. Why hasn't it been studied more to, to even, like, beat that study?

[00:07:18] Chris Burres: Well, y- like so many things, right? And you interview amazing supplements.

[00:07:23] Luke Storey: Who wants to pay for the study?

[00:07:25] Chris Burres: Who wants to pay for it, right? Like, if there was a way to protect this technology as, as it's used as a supplement, yeah, certainly, you know, whatever, um, whatever massive pharma company would've kind of bought those rights and would be testing it as we speak.

[00:07:38] Chris Burres: Um, but that's, you know, that's not available. The molecule is so old, and the understanding that it could be consumed is so old, there's no opportunity for patents. Ah, okay. And, and, and I, I actually am, I, I, I'm really a big believer in taking responsibility. It is now my responsibility. And Ian, he does a great job.

[00:07:56] Chris Burres: Um, Ian, I think he go by s- he goes by. Um- Yeah. The

[00:07:59] Luke Storey: [00:08:00] only Ian I've ever met that is pronounced "Ion."

[00:08:02] Chris Burres: Right?

[00:08:03] Luke Storey: It- I asked him, I was like, "Is that real, or are you just trying to be special?" And he's like, "No, that's my, that's how my parents said it, so that's what I'm sticking

[00:08:09] Chris Burres: with." And, and my wife is from Panama, so my instinct is to take the I and put an E on it anyway- Totally

[00:08:14] Chris Burres: like with, with Spanish, so. Totally. So Ion. I'll take the responsibility, I'm sure Ion would also, of hey, the reason people haven't heard about this is 'cause I need to do more work, and I need to do a better job of getting the message out there. And that's why I'm here, so thank you so much for having me, 'cause that is, I'm, I'm a geeky scientist who loves to communicate and loves to kind of share the message of this actually amazing molecule, uh, with as many people as possible.

[00:08:40] Luke Storey: I love it. Well, I'm always looking for, you know, the expert. I want the guy, not a guy or a girl. Yeah. It's like, that's why I asked Ion, "Does this guy know his shit? A, does his, is his product legit? Does he know his shit secondarily?" And he's like, "Both." So that, that's why we're sitting here. So thank you for coming.

[00:08:57] Luke Storey: Um, one of the things I really [00:09:00] enjoy is- Helping something that is a bit obscure or niche that's really cool become more mainstream. It's like one of the things I really dig. And, um, 'cause people did that for me. I mean, I remember, I don't know, 20 years ago when I first heard about Chinese herbs and medicinal mushrooms, right?

[00:09:19] Luke Storey: Reishi mushroom, lion's mane, chaga, all that. Used to go to these, um, conferences David Wolfe would have.

[00:09:25] Chris Burres: Hmm.

[00:09:25] Luke Storey: That was the first time I'd ever heard that you could use mushrooms for something other than pizza or, uh, tripping. Right. And then now, you know, all these years later, because that-- I really believe because of that one guy being such an advocate to kind of bring that, you know, ancient, um, knowledge from other places in the world to the U.S.,

[00:09:45] Luke Storey: now it's like everyone and their mom is making mushroom products, some of them better than others. But you go into- Yeah ... Whole Foods, there's like a medicinal mushroom section now, right?

[00:09:52] Chris Burres: Yeah.

[00:09:53] Luke Storey: Just 'cause one guy believed in it and was a champion of that. And, uh, so I really appreciate when someone like you kind of zeroes [00:10:00] in on an area of expertise and just finds their dharma and rolls with it.

[00:10:04] Chris Burres: Yeah. It's, it's, it's been fantastic. And, and to kind of get to your question, h- how did I end up here, well, you can imagine that 90% extension of life changed my trajectory, right? I kind of describe myself as a happy go lucky carbon nanomaterial scientist. If there is such a thing, I, I'm definitely him. Um, and so this study comes out and, you know, we actually tried not to get into the supplement space for a long time, right?

[00:10:29] Chris Burres: You talk about this row of supplements of different types of mushrooms at, at Whole Foods, and you're like, you're... Th- this is why people probably follow you and listen to you, is like, w- which one should I take, right? Like, like how do I... You, uh, I think I was listening to one of, one episode, and you shared that you actually like to get to the founders, right?

[00:10:49] Chris Burres: So that you can kind of measure them and understand if, like, they have a good product, and then that's... But that's what you have to do, and your audience doesn't ha- have time to do that all the time. Like, that's... [00:11:00] They need somebody like you to be- Yeah ... a, a guide to, like, where do I find the good stuff?

[00:11:04] Luke Storey: It's real easy to buy expensive pee.

[00:11:08] Luke Storey: I think I was a bit naive when I first started this podcast 10 years ago. I mean, I was into health, you know, alternative health long before that, but I, I think I was a bit naive to how many grifters there are. Mm. I just figured anyone that starts a supplement company is, is their core mission is really to help people.

[00:11:25] Luke Storey: Uh, which of course was, um, you know, a pretty, pretty, uh, naive perspective. Uh, which is one of the reasons I've become so discerning- Mm ... and really, you know, do my due diligence before I have someone on or bef- God forbid, before I take someone's product. Yeah. So yeah, I'm the guy that's, like, on the FAQ section and just going through the nuts and bolts and looking for weird excipients or just, you know, like, the less than optimal version of something, right?

[00:11:51] Chris Burres: Mm.

[00:11:51] Luke Storey: There's a lot of different vitamin B12s, you know? It's like, which one's actually safe and which one works? So, so yeah.

[00:11:57] Chris Burres: Yeah. I, I, I think, um, [00:12:00] y- and, and you also have access through your platform to actually get ahold of these experts and, and really dig in and roll up your sleeves. Totally. And it's really- Yeah.

[00:12:09] Luke Storey: Before I did this, I was just the annoying customer that was- ... emailing people's websites, you know? Now people actually answer my emails. They're just like, "Oh, it's that guy," you know? Uh, so let's talk about the, the molecule itself. Mm. And the thing I've always been curious about, and I've tried to get Ian to explain this to me and- y- y- you know, he's, he's a pretty good conveyor of information.

[00:12:31] Luke Storey: He's a good communicator. But basically, he was like, "Well, lightning has to strike to make this molecule," you know? So what we do is we have kind of a lab, and we make our own simulation of that natural occurrence, and that's how it happens. How would you explain, like, you know, how much of it is proprietary, I don't know, but-

[00:12:49] Chris Burres: Yeah.

[00:12:50] Chris Burres: Well-

[00:12:50] Luke Storey: Like, h- it, it's not something you're going out and, and mining or harvesting from nature, right? You're manufacturing it, uh, as a synthetic.

[00:12:58] Chris Burres: Well, probably the first place to [00:13:00] start is that it is a naturally occurring molecule. And so whether they've ever taken a Carbon 60 or an ESS60 product, everyone in your audience has been exposed to it.

[00:13:09] Chris Burres: And kind of the evidence for that is if you take the soot from a candle flame, which you usually do, like take a candle flame and put a cold steel plate over it, you'll get that deep, dark soot on that cold steel plate. That deep, dark soot has parts per million or parts per billion of the ESS60 molecule in it.

[00:13:25] Chris Burres: Oh, wow. Right? Naturally occurring. There's tons of it in space. If you look at the K-T boundary layer, which is the layer of earth associated with when the asteroid struck and killed all the dinosaurs, that layer has an elevated amount of the ESS60 molecule. But it doesn't have enough to kind of mine and use in a supplement, so you have to manufacture it in a reactor.

[00:13:46] Chris Burres: And before I even kind of talk about that process, whether you manufacture it in a reactor, collect it from space, get it from that KT boundary or from the candle, it's the same molecule because it is just such a s- there's only 60 carbon atoms [00:14:00] in one configuration. So there's some things that are, like, almost bioidentical hormones, right, which you need to be mindful of.

[00:14:07] Chris Burres: Those would be the thing... Well, not that thing, but those are the kinds of things you're looking for on the labels, right? Um, this molecule is the same no matter how you make it. In order to make it, you actually have to vaporize graphite rods. It turns out graphite is the... one of the hardest materials on the planet to vaporize.

[00:14:24] Chris Burres: So as you're pushing these rods together, you need, uh, local temperatures of the sun to vaporize these graphite rods. Oh.

[00:14:31] Luke Storey: Oh,

[00:14:31] Chris Burres: wow. That- that's your starting point.

[00:14:33] Luke Storey: Okay.

[00:14:33] Chris Burres: Next, it must be devoid of oxygen. If you have any oxygen in the chamber, you will not make the ESS60 molecule. And it also, you make a higher percentage of the soot that's coming off is a fullerenic soot, and I'll explain that in just a second, when it's at a reduced vacuum.

[00:14:50] Chris Burres: Right? So a slight vacuum, no oxygen, temperatures of the sun. Right? So those are, those are all the im- important pieces. That soot, so this is... [00:15:00] Literally, if I woke up today and I was like, "I wanna make money and sell a supplement," I probably wouldn't choose this one, right? 'Cause we- I've already mapped out a pretty tough process for manufacturing.

[00:15:11] Chris Burres: Turns out that soot that comes off of those graphite rods is only, on a good day, about 10% what's called fullerenes. Now, fullerenes are a whole collection of molecules that resemble this ESS60 molecule. Uh, this one has 60 carbon atoms. C70 has 70 carbon atoms. 76 has 76 carbon atoms. So that soot has 10% of a mixture of fullerenes, right?

[00:15:36] Luke Storey: Got it.

[00:15:38] Chris Burres: And then the rest is just amorphous carbon crap, like just stuff that's in the way. So you have to separate that, and the way you separate it is kind of the same way if you had a, a pile of sugar and sand and you wanted to separate it. You would put water in it. The water would dissolve the sugar.

[00:15:54] Chris Burres: You would filter it. The sugar would go through with the water in solution, and then the sta- [00:16:00] sand would stay on top of that filter. Same thing here. You dissolve the fullerenes with a polar solvent. You filter it. What stays on top is the amorphous carbon junk, uh, and what goes through in solution is the fullerenic, uh, material, and then you vaporize, you, you boil off, like you would boil off the water to get the sugar.

[00:16:17] Chris Burres: You boil off that solvent, and now you have fullerenes. But that fullerenes is now about 80% of this molecule. Um, most of the rest is 70, uh, atoms, and then there's some higher fullerenes. So now you need to use chromatographic processes, that was a lot of S's, to, uh, to separate that material and isolate, isolate it down to just the pure ESS60.

[00:16:41] Chris Burres: Then you boil that off, right? So now you've got your powder. Oh my

[00:16:43] Luke Storey: God.

[00:16:45] Chris Burres: Like you're getting, you might be getting a headache from just describing this.

[00:16:48] Luke Storey: No, I lo- I love it. I'm very interested in how things come to be.

[00:16:51] Chris Burres: And, and then you dissolve it in... So, so the materials, if you have a, a small pile of it in your hand, it would not surprise you that it's [00:17:00] a black powder.

[00:17:00] Chris Burres: It's a carbon powder, uh, and it would be crystalline like a sugar or a salt crystals, right? And you could consume it, but you would just, that would be expensive poop be- because, uh, it's not water soluble. So your body can't really do anything with it. So you then need to dissolve it in a lipid, olive oil, avocado oil, MCT oil, um, and it turns out, and, and what happens is those crystals break apart and now you have individual ESS60 molecules floating around in the olive oil.

[00:17:28] Chris Burres: And, and at this point it's basically infinitely more bioavailable. It turns out it doesn't dissolve readily. So we mix it for three weeks in big, giant stainless steel, you're welcome to come visit, big, giant stainless steel vats, three weeks, and then it's ready

[00:17:47] Luke Storey: Wow. So j- is do you put it in a centrifuge?

[00:17:51] Luke Storey: Like, how are, how are you getting the lipids in the MCT or olive oil, whatever, how are you getting it to absorb the, the raw materials? It,

[00:17:59] Chris Burres: it just [00:18:00] dissolves. Not as res- readily as, like, sugar and water, but it will dissolve. It just takes three weeks- It takes time ... for that to happen.

[00:18:07] Luke Storey: Does it require any force, or is it

[00:18:09] Chris Burres: just- Uh, yeah.

[00:18:10] Chris Burres: So you, you have a big paddle in there. Okay. Um, we actually have a backfill of nitrogen on those tanks, because you can imagine with a big mixer, you've got this vortex, and you, you're folding whatever, uh, air, whatever is in there, what- right? Whatever gas is in there. So you backfill it with nitrogen so whatever is getting folded in doesn't actually react either with the oil, 'cause you don't want it to go rancid, or with the ESS60 molecule, 'cause you don't want it to oxidize.

[00:18:35] Luke Storey: What's the difference between that process and making a, a liposomal delivery for, for a molecule?

[00:18:43] Chris Burres: So s- typically, what liposomal is doing is, let's say, taking a very small water particle, and that water could have whatever... You, you just did a podcast on, uh, astros- astaxanthin. Astaxanthin, yeah. Astaxanthin.

[00:18:56] Chris Burres: Yeah. I put an extra R in for, I don't know.

[00:18:58] Luke Storey: For

[00:18:58] Chris Burres: whatever.

[00:18:59] Luke Storey: [00:19:00] Astrosanthin.

[00:19:00] Chris Burres: Right, exactly.

[00:19:00] Luke Storey: Sounds like a comic book. You might be onto something.

[00:19:03] Chris Burres: And, and so let's say that's, well, it's ac- it, it, yeah. The, it's actually oil soluble also, but the, the, the person you had on had a kind of water soluble version. They... So you take a very small water particle, and then you wrap it with a lipid, right?

[00:19:19] Chris Burres: So now it's an oil soluble. You can do the reverse. You can take a very small oil particle, wrap it with water, a water material, um, and then it's effectively water soluble. But it's really just at such a small scale that the surface tensions work so that, um, it stays water soluble or the reverse, oil soluble.

[00:19:38] Luke Storey: Got it. What do you think the main mechanism of action is that had that effect on those mice?

[00:19:46] Chris Burres: So if it's okay, I'll walk you through my process. Like, like how I felt. Give me the whole-

[00:19:50] Luke Storey: Yeah ... give me the whole deal.

[00:19:51] Chris Burres: So-

[00:19:51] Luke Storey: I mean, you were, like, one of the first, if not the first, guys to make a consumable supplement out of C60?

[00:19:58] Chris Burres: So [00:20:00] the right way to say that is we ended up buying the first company that was kind of aggressively marketing this.

[00:20:05] Luke Storey: Oh, okay.

[00:20:06] Chris Burres: Uh, as I go through the story, there will be pieces where, um, the, the lesson is Chris wishes he was smarter and jumped on things faster, um, and that would, that would be kind of one.

[00:20:17] Chris Burres: We are the oldest and longest manufacturer and distributor of this molecule on the planet. So the molecule discovered in '85. The scientists who discovered it won the Nobel Prize in '96. We started manufacturing it in 1991, a full five years before they were awarded the Nobel Prize. So, um, I'm not a very braggadocios person, but, and this is as much as you'll get from me- It's not unreasonable to suggest that the fact that we were manufacturing and distributing to re- research institutions around the world and they could actually get their hands on it, work with it in experimentation, had an impact on when they won the Nobel Prize, right?

[00:20:57] Chris Burres: And, and we're all in Houston. We actually visited, [00:21:00] um, the lab that ultimately won the Nobel Prize to kind of pick their brain on how to make the best piece of equipment. And so even back in 1991, that process for making the equipment is the best. So oldest and longest manufacturer. Um, I'm gonna start here 'cause it's, it's kind of funny.

[00:21:17] Chris Burres: You, you'll really appreciate this. So This study comes out in mid-2012. We start getting phone calls in mid-2013 from this crazy, wacky group of people called biohackers, which I get to say affectionately now 'cause I am a biohacker. And their question was, "Hey, we saw that rat study. The rats lived 90% longer.

[00:21:37] Chris Burres: How much should we consume?" And you have to think about, from my business partner Robert and I's, my perspective w- with our conservative carbon nanomaterial hats on, they were asking us, "Hey, that stuff you sell to research institutions around the world to put into ink, batteries, tires, and photocells, how much of that stuff should we be consuming?"

[00:21:58] Chris Burres: And our [00:22:00] response was zero. We actually added "not for human consumption" to our labeling in mid-2013. So from 1991 all the way to 2013, no, not for human consumption 'cause no- nobody was that crazy, right?

[00:22:14] Luke Storey: Interesting.

[00:22:15] Chris Burres: And then we added them, and that turned into a really fascinating situation, as you might, uh, which won't surprise you with biohackers.

[00:22:23] Chris Burres: We're getting two to three phone calls a week, and those calls sound something like this: Joe calls and he goes, "Hey, Chris. Um, I have to share with you, I've been taking your product and my knee pain is gone." And I would be, "Joe, you mean the knee pain of your rat 'cause it literally says 'not for human consumption' on the labeling."

[00:22:41] Chris Burres: And Joe would say, "Yeah. Hey, if my rat weighs 275 pounds and does HIIT training on Wednesdays and Fridays, should I take more? I mean, should my rat take more- ... on Wednesdays and Fridays?" So we, we knew what was going on, but the conservative scientists, w- we didn't wanna take the "not for human [00:23:00] consumption" off of the labeling.

[00:23:01] Chris Burres: And in the literature, it was safe, especially this one particular study. If anything is ever true, when all of the control rats, so this is in that, uh, s- uh, study out of the University of Paris, all of the control rats are dead, the ones given water, and all of the toxic rats are alive, like, it's not toxic.

[00:23:19] Chris Burres: And so that's why we allowed it to, to go. So we progress. My business partner are getting together every quarter, uh, and we're asking ourselves, "Do we wanna get into the supplement space?" And we kind of already touched on, I like to generously describe the supplement space as challenged. Like, j- we'll just leave it there.

[00:23:38] Chris Burres: And so we didn't really wanna get into the supplement space. We were happy go lucky carbon nanomaterial scientists, uh, delivering it to research institutions around the world. And in this timeframe, that finally changed at the latter part of 2017, but in this timeframe, I found a peer-reviewed published research paper.

[00:23:56] Chris Burres: These scientists had purchased supplements off the, right off the [00:24:00] shelves, and they found that 50% of the supplements they purchased didn't have in them what they said they had in them, right? This is a challenged industry. We didn't wanna get into it. Finally, latter part of 2017, a guy with a big YouTube following, which is how everything changes these days, right?

[00:24:16] Chris Burres: Uh, he starts sharing all the benefits he's getting taking it on a daily basis, and, uh, our phone went from ringing from two to three times a week to 10 times a day. And at that quarterly meeting, Robert and I were like, "Okay, this is a bigger opportunity than... You know, we wish we were smarter. This is a bigger opportunity than we realized."

[00:24:36] Chris Burres: We looked back at that paper. 50% of the supplements on the market don't have in them what they say they have in them, and I shared kind of before we got started recording here that we tested 22 of the products in the C60 space. All of them were woefully low except for Ian's and ours. And so- Wow. What happened is- Those aren't good odds.

[00:24:59] Chris Burres: And, and, and [00:25:00] literally there... I, I usually won't call out people. You can imagine I don't necessarily mention Ian in that context normally, but you know him. Yeah. I know him, and, uh, like, he's a great guy. Um, there are some supplements that I would even mention that don't ha- that claim to have C60 in them and don't have any C60 in them.

[00:25:18] Chris Burres: Zero. Really? Like, super easy, high school level chemistry test can prove to you that it has no C60 in it.

[00:25:26] Luke Storey: See, I struggle with this issue because I don't like or trust our institutions- Mm-hmm ... and government, but it's like I don't like regulations, right? It's like I don't wanna be told what to do. I just am a sovereign person and just wanna do my thing and be left alone, right?

[00:25:43] Luke Storey: It's kind of... That's, that's my politics. Leave me alone, and I'll leave you alone. Um, but at the same time y- when there's not some sort of regulatory, uh, confine present, then you have people just stealing people's money. You know? I go to [00:26:00] the health food store and buy, oh, a C60. I heard that's good for you, and I spend 60 bucks on C60 that doesn't have any in it.

[00:26:07] Luke Storey: Like, that's, that's bad business.

[00:26:09] Chris Burres: Yeah. No, it's,

[00:26:10] Luke Storey: it's- But at the same... You know what I mean? Yeah. It's kind of a conundrum, though, 'cause-

[00:26:13] Chris Burres: I don't want the regulation ...

[00:26:14] Luke Storey: yeah, the regulatory agencies- But maybe a little. ... are so prohibitive of innovation, right? Um, yet at the same time, it's like if no one's guarding the henhouse, you know, the foxes tend to come in.

[00:26:26] Chris Burres: Well, and aga- this rolls back to you, right, and the platform, and, like, digging in, rolling up your sleeves, figuring out what is working, what isn't working, um, and why it might work. Like, it's, it's, y- y- it, it... So, so you have kind of a Wild West in the C60 space, just like you have in the supplement space in, in general.

[00:26:45] Luke Storey: Peptides right now. That's the-

[00:26:46] Chris Burres: Right? Like-

[00:26:47] Luke Storey: Guns are blazing in the peptide scene. I got- I get an email, like, every two days. "Hey, we're a peptide company. Want to work with you," you know?

[00:26:53] Chris Burres: I, there was a, there was a three-week period where I met three... one new peptide company every [00:27:00] week. Like, m- like, introduced, met them, or a buddy of mine started.

[00:27:03] Chris Burres: So yeah, peptides are, peptides are taking off, you know, for, for, for better or for worse. I think ultimately with safe kind of re- with some regulation, um, they'll be better. Like, I think there's good things going on there, but n- I, I don't, I don't know. That's a That's an interesting... You, you could talk for, I don't know, 12 hours on peptides.

[00:27:24] Luke Storey: Yeah. Especially

[00:27:24] Chris Burres: if s-

[00:27:25] Luke Storey: I've, I've done a few shows about them, but more with, um, alternative doctors, functional- Mm ... medicine doctors and stuff. I've yet to have someone on who, like, makes them or is a chemist and, you know, or a pharmacist or something that, that actually really understands them deeply. I take them.

[00:27:40] Luke Storey: I, I've been using peptides for a long time.

[00:27:42] Chris Burres: I, I, I'm, I have a stack that I'm about to start, uh, and I have certainly played ar- That, that's when I felt like I was really a biohacker, when I, like, first injected some, some peptides. Probably. Like, okay, I've crossed the, this, th- I've crossed the line. Yeah,

[00:27:54] Luke Storey: yeah.

[00:27:55] Luke Storey: Totally. I always wonder, uh, what people think when they come in and see, like, syringes [00:28:00] laying on the counters and stuff there. Well, with, with your history, you're like, "Hey-" I- "... do we need to

[00:28:04] Chris Burres: check

[00:28:05] Luke Storey: in here?" Exactly. Exactly. Well, that's the funny thing. You know, when I was, uh, when I was an addict, I was terrified of needles, 'cause it was, like- Oh, wow

[00:28:12] Luke Storey: during the, it was during the '80s and '90s, and AIDS was a really big threat. Um, and also just people would overdose and die, and I, I knew that one of those two things could happen. So it's funny, now I have no problem with needles. But back when I actually probably really could have used them, I w- I wouldn't do it.

[00:28:32] Chris Burres: It's funny that you mention AIDS, because interestingly, this molecule actually sits in one of the receptors of the AIDS virus to block the replication of the AIDS virus.

[00:28:44] Luke Storey: What?

[00:28:44] Chris Burres: So even back in the '90s, they were like, "This could be..." So, so this is known to be an antiviral, known to be an antibacterial, um, and in that particular context, yeah, blocking the AIDS virus.

[00:28:55] Chris Burres: So it never proceeded, um, 'cause of, I think there's lots of [00:29:00] viable solutions for, uh, somebody with AIDS now, but, like, the, the molecule's really amazing.

[00:29:05] Luke Storey: That's, that's a trip. Pl- Well, plus you can't patent it, right? Right. So they're like, "It works, but you can't patent it. Never mind. It's good."

[00:29:11] Chris Burres: Yeah. W- What's next?

[00:29:12] Chris Burres: It's literally the best thing ever. Eh. You gotta get somebody like me who's, whatever, gonna hi- hit the pavement and talk to m- as many people as possible to try and get it out there.

[00:32:33] Chris Burres: Like, why did Joe's rat's knee pain go away, right? It reminds me, yesterday I saw something on social media that they're trying to, um, make daylight savings time permanent, and, and at first I thought, "Oh, great," 'cause, uh, when the, when the- they change the times, I'm wrecked for, like, two or three weeks.

[00:33:45] Luke Storey: It just really throws me off, and I was like, "Oh, awesome." And then I realized, wait, no, we don't want permanent daylight savings time. We want permanent standard time. 'Cause then I was looking at a, a map, and it was saying, um, you know, the different areas of the [00:34:00] US, like in January, when was sunrise and sunset- Mm

[00:34:03] Luke Storey: right? And in Austin, if they do this, in January, the sunrise would be, like, at 8:35 AM. Like,

[00:34:10] Chris Burres: oh my

[00:34:11] Luke Storey: God. You know? Come on, guys. Uh, just-

[00:34:14] Chris Burres: Do you, do you know the sta- like, some of the statistics on daylight savings time and sleep and the actual physiological impact that it has on humans? I

[00:34:23] Luke Storey: don't. I just know- Okay

[00:34:24] Luke Storey: subjectively it wrecks me. I'm... It's so annoying. It- It makes me wanna move to Central America just to, like, be in the-

[00:34:30] Chris Burres: Let's not have that, yeah.

[00:34:31] Luke Storey: Yeah, just...

[00:34:32] Chris Burres: So I, I kind of like to describe it as, like, every year we do a multi-billion person study on sleep, and, you know, the first thought is, well, you can't do a 10,000 person study.

[00:34:42] Chris Burres: How do you do a multi-billion? And it is daylight savings time. When we lose an hour of sleep, we lose, uh, uh, we have an increase between 21 and 23% of cardiovascular disease events. Heart attacks go up by 20... We'll call it 22%- What? ... when we [00:35:00] lose that hour of sleep And guess what goes down when you gain that hour of sleep?

[00:35:04] Chris Burres: Cardiovascular events go down. Accidents go up and down, same thing. So it is, you know, like sleep, sleep, that, that's just proof that sleep is so unbelievably important for us. Get your, you know, um, Dr. Matthew Walker talks about seven and a half hours of sleep opportunity every night. Like, do, do it religiously.

[00:35:25] Chris Burres: Yeah. It's, it's really important.

[00:35:26] Luke Storey: I mean, it's hard to explain that to younger people. Mm. Like, it was hard to explain it to me when I was younger and now it's like, oh my God, my grandma was right, you know? My 99-year-old grandma, she used to just harp on me all the time about sleep back when I was, you know, staying up sometimes for a couple days in a row, you know?

[00:35:43] Luke Storey: Yeah. Um, like, what? I'm partying. This is fun.

[00:35:45] Chris Burres: This ... Yeah. But back

[00:35:46] Luke Storey: to your- I

[00:35:46] Chris Burres: feel fine.

[00:35:47] Luke Storey: Yeah. Nope. But back to your question about being able to, you know, take a supplement in the morning that's going to help you with sleep the following night, um, I have not found anything like that. But what's interesting is I had [00:36:00] no idea that C60 was known to have a positive effect on sleep, and I find when I'm using the C60 consistently, that my sleep does improve.

[00:36:11] Luke Storey: But it's not something I would ever think of for that reason, right? You have melatonin, magnesium, valerian root, whatever. There's a lot of things I take at night, um, to knock myself out, but yeah, that, that is an interesting kind of side effect.

[00:36:23] Chris Burres: And, and a- we, we think it's just confirmation of, uh, kind of where I'll land this, this part of the conversation, um, with the boss theory.

[00:36:31] Chris Burres: So, um, so that's what we really think it's doing at the mitochondrial level. So, so, so we'll get there, but ... So my role, I'm trying to figure out what's going on, like how, you know, why is Joe's rat's knee pain gone? Uh, and if you just improve sleep, that'll improve everything. Um, the next pl- thing that I was looking at is, okay, these rats live 90% longer.

[00:36:51] Chris Burres: Why did they live? Like, what does the medical community think about aging? And they don't all agree, of course, but they tend to think of it as an oxidation and an [00:37:00] inflammation process. And as an antioxidant, there's a ad hoc study on the web showing us to be 172 times more powerful than vitamin C. Uh, there's peer-reviewed published research showing us to be 125 times more powerful than vitamin C.

[00:37:13] Chris Burres: So we're in Texas, so we can put a big old check mark on, on antioxidant. Um, when it comes to inflammation, you have to be really careful, right? Because the FDA, uh, um, conflates conversations about inflammation with the diseases of inflammation, which are also the diseases of aging. So arthritis, Alzheimer's, cardiovascular disease, cancers.

[00:37:36] Chris Burres: And so I come on your show and I share we address inflammation. The FDA hears me claiming we cure cancer, we cure card- Right ... we're not claiming that. Um, uh, there, there's so much research that needs to go into it and, and we're hoping to try. We're actually... Our goal is to start four clinical trials before the end of this year.

[00:37:52] Chris Burres: Like, that's- Oh, cool ... like, we're heavily vested in this. Um, y- lots of research to be able to make that claim. What the FDA will allow [00:38:00] us to say is that we address inflammation as it relates to exercise-induced inflammation. So we've all g- you know, tough workout, longer walk than normal, uh, and you feel that sense of inflammation.

[00:38:11] Chris Burres: The FDA allows us to say we address that. So I don't know if that's a partial check mark. It's not a big old check mark. Um, and then I wanna dig deeper. So what is even driving this kind of anti-inflammatory response, this, uh, as it relates to exercise and, and this, um, antioxidant? And we landed here. Uh, it's called the BOSS theory.

[00:38:31] Chris Burres: Uh, it means buffering oxidative stress system. And things that give the BOSS theory credibility, one, we know from peer-reviewed published research that this ESS60 molecule gets into the mitochondria. We also know from way back in the '90s that this can hold up to six negatively charged particles on the exterior of this cage.

[00:38:51] Chris Burres: So here's what that looks like. I know you know this. Quick refresher. Mitochondria is the powerhouse of every cell. There's between 50 and 5,000 mitochondria in every cell [00:39:00] in your body, uh, except for your blood cells, which have zero, and your brain and neurons, which have two million. It's amazing how much energy our nervous system uses relative to every other system.

[00:39:10] Chris Burres: Mitochondria is the powerhouse. Like every powerhouse, there's a negative byproduct. You think about your car going down the road, there's exhaust. You think I drove past a power plant on the way up here, there was smoke coming out of the power plant. Um, in the case of mitochondria, it's reactive oxygen species.

[00:39:26] Chris Burres: Now, the way I picture these, they're like little bumper cars, right? Running around... If they're left to their own devices, they run around your body, and everything they smack into, they cause rust. They cause oxidative stress, oxidative damage, which sounds horrible, and it is, but like so many biological systems, we've got a way to manage that.

[00:39:43] Chris Burres: And the way that our body manages it inside of the mitochondria is with the key antioxidants glutathione and melatonin I like to pause here 'cause melatonin is the sleep hormone. You already mentioned it as something to take to knock you out. Operating the same environment, right? [00:40:00] So in a healthy mitochondria, it's producing energy, ATP, uh, it's, has the byproduct of reactive oxygen species.

[00:40:06] Chris Burres: They're being managed by glutathione and melatonin. But what happens when you stress a mitochondria? Which of course begs the question, how do you stress a mitochondria? I point out that if you're alive in modern society, you have stressed mitochondria. By the way, you should be stressing your mitochondria so that you can, like, fight things like sarcopenia.

[00:40:24] Chris Burres: You should be improving your VO2 max. You should be mo- improving your strength. That will stress your mitochondria. Um, but, like, more, whatever, more lazily, we've got EMF off of devices. If you're in a airplane, you've got, uh, accelerated EMF. Um, you, you've got smoking, drinking, smog, um, and... Well, you don't have the first two, but you've got smog, I know that.

[00:40:48] Chris Burres: Maybe less out here. Yeah. Yeah. This is a beautiful area. And then stressful emails, stressful conversations, right? So, uh, you have stressed mitochondria. And when you stress the mitochondria, it starts producing more reactive oxygen [00:41:00] species than can be managed by the glutathione and melatonin. That's, again, if they're left to their own devices, they cause that stress, and that's where this ESS60 molecule comes in.

[00:41:09] Chris Burres: So again, we know from peer-reviewed published research it's in the mitochondria. We believe it holds onto up to six negatively charged reactive oxygen species so they can't run around like a bumper car, and then when that mitochondria can replenish the glutathione, replenish the melatonin, then it can manage them properly Now, I have a fun analogy, um, that, that you've probably never heard anything close to.

[00:41:32] Chris Burres: Uh, I kinda feel like all biological analogies should start with Mardi Gras. I mean, a lot of biology happens at Mardi Gras, so why not, right? It's, it's the end of Mardi Gras and you have these drunk reactive oxygen species running around on Bourbon Street, and they're smashing windows, spray painting cars, and you have the New Orleans Police Department coming onto Bourbon Street, and this is the glutathione and melatonin handcuffing themselves to those reactive oxygen species and getting them off of Bourbon [00:42:00] Street.

[00:42:00] Chris Burres: But what does the New Orleans Police Department do when they get overwhelmed? They take those reactive oxygen species and they put them in a paddy wagon. They attach them to the exterior of the ESS60 molecule so they can't do damage, and then when the glutathione and melatonin are replenished, the New Orleans Police Department replenishes them, then they can handcuff themselves to those reactive oxygen species and get them off of Bourbon Street.

[00:42:23] Chris Burres: And that's why we say that the ESS60 molecule is the boss of buffering oxidative stress system. And I'll just summarize it this way. We believe we're reducing the negative impact of stressed mitochondria. Uh, so you mentioned [00:44:00] melato- I'm glad you framed melatonin as an antioxidant because I think generally the public just views it as, like, a sleep supplement. Yep. Um, I go through cycles.

[00:44:09] Luke Storey: I don't do it all the time, but, uh, when I'm on it, we'll get... I'm on it unless I run out and I forget to order some. Yeah, yeah. But I, I'm taking, like, two, 300 milligrams a night and feeling amazing, uh, I think because of the mitochondrial support. It do- it's not that, like, my sleep is exponentially better when I'm on that much melatonin, but I definitely feel, um, more resilient.

[00:44:55] Luke Storey: I don't wanna read it 'cause it'll pr- it'll probably say something about you shouldn't eat late at night, [00:45:00] especially sugar, and that's a really bad habit I

[00:45:04] Luke Storey: I don't wanna know. La, la, la.

[00:45:05] Chris Burres: Yeah, yeah. I can't hear. Yeah. Well, you can listen to all of the rest and then, like, uh, you know, put on the, the whatever, the blue light blockers for your ears- Yeah, yeah

[00:45:14] Chris Burres: on that piece. Um, he... So I learned in, in that book, by the way, fantastic guy, did 25 years at some high university of research on sleep. Um, started off, uh, studying, uh, Alzheimer's and recognized that there was a tie between sleep and Alzheimer's and just started studying sleep. And the, the, the thing that he pointed out about melatonin is that it's a starting gun preparing your physiology to get ready to sleep.

[00:45:41] Chris Burres: So the challenge with that, if you take it too late or you take too much, like, you don't want that starting gun going off at 1:00 in the morning. 'Cause that's one I've heard is, like, a big player, but it's kind of underserved. People don't talk about it a lot.

[00:54:02] Chris Burres: So one kinda cool thing, a- and I'm pretty much, like, World Cup is probably the extent and, like, maybe Super Bowl commercials. Um, but I do follow, mostly 'cause of my wife, she's from Panama. I played soccer for 25 years.

[00:54:14] Chris Burres: She's a significantly bigger soccer fan than me. But one of the cool things h- has been on social media to see all of these people coming in from other countries and experiencing America. And there was, I think it was one Japanese post where, like, we sat down and they brought chips and salsa, and his reaction was, "We, we didn't do anything to deserve this."

[00:54:37] Chris Burres: Also, it's rude to not consume all of the gift. Funny. So you can imagine how many chips he ate. It, it's just cool to see people having amazing experiences in- Totally ... in this country. There's a, there's a lot of talk of if you wanna hate America, follow social media. If you wanna love America, drive through it.

[00:55:07] Luke Storey: yeah. Well, let, let's go back to that, but the one other thing before I forget is, um, when you were talking about how the, the cage, kind of the, the shape of the, of the, um, fulvalene, would that be a- Yeah, fulvalene,

[00:55:21] Chris Burres: absolutely

[00:55:21] Luke Storey: the shape of the fulvalene has the ability to attract or adhere to negatively charged molecules. Which sounds like what activated charcoal does, another form of carbon. Mm. But what's interesting to me about that, 'cause pe- you know, that people mostly use that for detox, but, you know, your digestive system is basically like a garden hose, and when you take charcoal, as far as I understand it, it, it's great at sucking up toxins and those negatively charged particles within the GI, but it's not going in your bloodstream, so you're not getting any of that effect.

[00:55:55] Luke Storey: Whereas you've demonstrated, I mean, if it's getting into the mitochondria, it's definitely getting into your [00:56:00] blood, right?

[00:56:00] Chris Burres: Yep.

[00:56:00] Luke Storey: Does it have the ability, um, not just to adhere to the ROS, the f- like, the free radicals? Does it have the ability, or at least has it been proven to have the ability to also attract and get toxins out of your body?

[00:56:16] Chris Burres: We think the answer- '

[00:56:17] Luke Storey: Cause toxins in your gut is bad, but, like, once they're in your gut, that means they're already in your brain and everywhere that your blood travels, right? So I'm always thinking like, "Okay, great, you can detox the GI," but how do you detox your brain and, like, you know, other organs?

[00:56:31] Chris Burres: You, you bring up a question, and I was thinking about this because, um, uh, you know, activated charcoal is...

[00:56:38] Chris Burres: It does. It just stays in your intestinal tract, and I'm trying to figure out how does this pull out toxins? It's known to be pulling out toxins. Is it just only mitigating what you've consumed, and so you have to continue to consume it? Really, there's the, the bile pathway, right? Actually goes into and out of your intestinal tract and your physiology, you can kinda call it, outside of the gar- garden hose.[00:57:00]

[00:57:00] Chris Burres: And so it... That's what it's interacting with i- in terms of activated charcoal. So your natural detoxing capabilities have to do their job and get it into the intestinal tract, and then, then the activated charcoal can do stuff, which has limitations We actually got some of our raw product to the University of Houston, uh, actually a mechanical engineering department, and they wanted to compare and contrast it with activated charcoal, and they described the material, our material, as goo- as good or better than activated charcoal in the kind of roles that you would use activated charcoal.

[00:57:34] Chris Burres: So, so th- and we know it gets into your actual physiology to the level of the mitochondria. So there is, is reasonable, I wouldn't say expectation, but reasonable reasons to believe that this could be detoxing actually in your physiology.

[00:57:51] Chris Burres: I mean, it just- Bonus ... continues to be g- So, so one of the interesting things about this, right?

[00:57:56] Chris Burres: So I'm holding up this soccer ball shaped molecule. There's a void in [00:58:00] the middle of it. That void is big enough for any atom on the periodic chart to fit inside of it.

[00:58:05] Luke Storey: Really?

[00:58:05] Chris Burres: Yes.

[00:58:06] Luke Storey: These are that small?

[00:58:07] Chris Burres: Y- so well, well, the- I

[00:58:09] Luke Storey: mean, the cage itself is that small? Is

[00:58:13] Chris Burres: It's o- and you can only get one or two atoms inside of it, right? That's how small it is, right? Um, and there's a new symbol in chemistry because of this molecule. I think that's maybe how you know you're gonna win a Nobel Prize, when they add a new symbol to the language of chemistry. Yeah, right. It's like, "I'm probably gonna get one."

[00:58:31] Chris Burres: Uh, the at symbol, so you can say lanthanum@C60, right? Which means lanthanum physically trapped inside of it, not covalently bonded or ionically bonded to the exterior of it. And-

[00:58:44] Luke Storey: Which is, that's what charcoal does, right? No,

[00:58:46] Chris Burres: uh, well, I think charcoal, i- activated charcoal specifically really just has, um, a, a, a ch- a charge that is able to attract stuff- Right

[00:58:54] Chris Burres: and really kind of small pockets.

[00:58:56] Luke Storey: But it's not encapsulating it- Correct ... in the way that you just described.

[00:58:59] Chris Burres: Yeah, yeah, I don't th- I don't [00:59:00] think it's bonding with it- Okay ... with it either. Well, i- it's actually probably ionically bonding with it- Okay ... right, is, is what's going on. Um, so the fact that anything can fit inside of this, and also we kind of mentioned benzene already.

[00:59:11] Chris Burres: Benzene is kind of the, the foundation of organic chemistry. Most of the organic, uh, chemistry that works on benzene that allows us to, I don't know, make things that attach to pro- you know, that are proteins, that attach to particular receptor sites on different cells, works on the exterior of this cage.

[00:59:29] Chris Burres: So one of the concepts was stick radioactive atom inside of buckyball, attach thing that will attach to cancer cell, and go deliver a radioactive payload.

[00:59:39] Luke Storey: Oh, wow.

[00:59:40] Chris Burres: In the realm of possibility, like that's still super expensive. We've made them before at our lab, these endohedral fullerenes. Um, they're very hard to make.

[00:59:49] Chris Burres: They're very hard to kind of process and understand what you've made, and then you've got to do the wet chemistry on the exterior. But like this, this molecule is... There is a book called The Most Beautiful [01:00:00] Molecule written entirely about this molecule.

[01:01:10] Chris Burres: Jet lag, I think, is actually a, probably an FDA thing, so we're, we're right... Here's what I like to say. First off, the FDA has not evaluated our product. It is not intended to treat, diagnose, cure, or prevent any disease, and any anecdote we might share today, just assume it won't happen for you. Like, dig into the research.

[01:01:27] Chris Burres: If you're interested, there'll probably be a link, uh, somewhere. But yeah, we just don't suffer when, when we go. Um, also, I still do have, uh, alcoholic beverages. I also don't suffer. I drink a lot less in the last two years. Like, I was like, "Let me just cut this back. It's probably smart." Um, so if that's on anybody's radar, that's, that's an, an absolute.

[01:01:48] Luke Storey: As a hangover assist.

[01:01:50] Chris Burres: So we can't say hangover. You'll, you'll notice one of these boxes is a[01:02:00]

[01:02:00] Chris Burres: party recovery. Can you say it reduces an overabundance of aldehyde in your bloodstream? Well, so, uh, this is interesting. The, that, that original study where the rats lived 90% longer, there's two other pieces, I said three, but there's two other pieces of that study that, um, that are really powerful. My director of research came up to me once and he's like, "Hey, this could've been five separate papers."

[01:02:16] Chris Burres: Um, I'm gonna... Uh, I'll share two, and one of them is liver-based. Uh, the first one, it's a typical Wistar rat lives out to 32 months and has a known amount of tumor mass in its body. The longer it lives, the more tumor mass it has in its body. Even though the MyVital C rats lived out to 62 months, none of them had any tumors.

[01:02:35] Chris Burres: So I've shared this story with people, and people will say, "Oh, a cure for cancer," and I'm very quick to say nope, and then follow that with another nope, like, like, just to be really clear. There's a big difference between dealing with a cancer that has metastasized and potentially being a cancer preventative.

[01:02:51] Chris Burres: We know things as simple as good exercise, good nutrition, good sleep are cancer preventatives. That piece just throws this molecule into that [01:03:00] arena. Um, I will share, this is a, a relevant study. It's a Petri dish study, so the lowest level of study, but I think it's relevant. So in a Petri dish, they have cancer cells and healthy cells, and they introduce an anti-cancer agent, which is basically a poison.

[01:03:16] Chris Burres: You're trying to kill the cancer cells before the healthy cells. In the presence of the ESS60 molecule, there was increased efficacy of the inter- anti-cancer agent and protective effects for the healthy cells. So basically, in the presence of ESS60, more cancer cells died, less healthy cells died. Um- Oh.

[01:08:11] Chris Burres: Um, so she said in her video, like, "I'm in the middle of quitting smoking." I was like, "This is a waste of..." I sent product all the way to the UK. I got this video. [01:15:39] Chris Burres: Another piece of the study is they inject- this is not nice, but this is what toxicity studies do. Uh, they injected the Wistar rats with carbon tetrachloride. This is an oxidative agent that attacks the liver. So they inject it, and this was obviously a separate group because they were, they didn't survive.

[01:15:55] Chris Burres: Um, they, so they injected one group was water, one group was given olive oil, [01:16:00] one group was given olive oil with the ESS60 molecule. Um, and then they let them process that for 24 hours, euthanize them, and look at the livers. Uh, the ones given water, uh, th- as they looked at the livers, zero recovery 'cause that's what you typically expect from car- carbon tetrachloride.

[01:16:16] Chris Burres: Minimal recovery for the olive oil. Like, and I'll come back to olive oil, like whatever olive oil you're consuming, probably should consume more. Um, and almost complete, uh, recovery on the ones given ESS60 in the liver, right? Wow. So, so when you think about the party recovery aspect, like as an antioxidant in the liver, like there's, there's some solid things going on there.

[01:16:38] Luke Storey: Wow, that's epic. Um, have you ever heard of anyone putting it in their eyes directly?

[01:16:58] Luke Storey: And all the stuff I've tried has [01:17:00] helped, you know. My- I've, I've not had to go up in my prescription, you know. Oftentimes people get addicted to their contacts and glasses and get so dependent that they're envision, uh, continue- It, it's hard

[01:17:51] Luke Storey: Well, it happened today, right? Yeah. With, with Holon, yeah.

[01:17:54] Chris Burres: He was at the bio, Dave Asprey's biohacking conference, and so I got a chance to meet him kind of shortly after [01:18:00] interviewing him. Um, and sharp, sharp as a tack, really, really great interview. In the different oils that we have, right? So we have a product in olive oil, product in avocado oil, and a product in MCT oil.

[01:18:10] Chris Burres: We always recommend the olive oil, and there's two reasons for that. The first reason is that most of the research is on the ESS60 molecule in olive oil. So that's, that's the first one. The next is, and we're a science-based organization, so where's the science? The next is there's a higher concentration of the ESS60 molecule in olive oil versus the other.

[01:18:30] Chris Burres: So it's about- Oh ... .8 milligrams per milliliter in olive oil, .6 in avocado oil, and then .3 in MCT oil. Oh. So you might want to double up your MCT, um- Avocado ... and I'll share my routine. I, I kind of do a Bulletproof coffee kind of thing. Get rid of the ghee. I don't like the flavor very much, a lot of calories.

[01:18:49] Chris Burres: Uh, so I put our MCT in my coffee in the morning, and while that's blending, I put about a teaspoon and a half, our recommended serving is actually a teaspoon of the olive oil. So I put a teaspoon and a [01:19:00] half of the MCT in coffee, and then I take a teaspoon and a half of our olive oil, and that's-

[01:19:22] Chris Burres: I actually ha- So I, really just taste is the real reason. Oh, okay. But I was working with one person who was like, "I'm allergic to olive oil." I was like, "I didn't think that was possible." "Uh, I'm allergic to MCT." I thought that was even less possible. Huh. And then okay with olive oil. I mean avocado oil. So l- taste is- Okay.

Um, so couple years ago when, uh, the COVID fiasco was in full effect, I was really following a lot of alternative media to try to figure out what the hell was going on because what I was being told, uh, just didn't resonate- Mm-hmm

[01:25:47] Luke Storey: to say the least. And so I started seeing, um, a lot of doctors kind of, you know, out of the box thinkers who were doing tests on people's blood that had received the, um, inoculation. Mm. [01:26:00] I won't call it a vaccine 'cause I don't believe that's what it was or is, but, um, they'd show it under a microscope, and there was a lot of fuss around graphene oxide.

[01:26:09] Luke Storey: Mm. Yep. They were finding graphene oxide, and they'd take a magnet under the microscope, and you'd see, like, all these little black particles go whoosh, getting sucked toward the magnet, which is, you know, not... It's not an ingredient that you would need in a medication. But when you were describing how the C60 is manufactured, you're using graphite, and I don't...

[01:26:29] Luke Storey: And there's... I'm trying to, like, tie a really- Yeah ... obscure idea here together. If, if, if we have graphene oxide in our body for any reason, we probably don't want it, right? It's not- I would,

[01:26:40] Chris Burres: I would agree with that ...

[01:26:41] Luke Storey: not something healthy, however it got there, right? I wonder what the relationship is between this carbon that is derived from graphite and graphene oxide, which to me seems kind of like a, a rogue batch of molecules that's kind of wreaking havoc on the body.

[01:26:58] Luke Storey: Do you know of or [01:27:00] can you hypothesize a relationship between graphene oxide and this carbon?

[01:27:06] Chris Burres: Yeah. Very different. And, and the way to think about it, right, so, so graphene is, you know, w- we, we grew up using lead pencils, and as you're smearing a lead pencil on a piece of paper, you're leaving sheets of graphene there, right?

[01:27:18] Chris Burres: Graphene oxide is something that has oxides, a, a graphene sheet that has oxides on it. Um, and that's a flat sheet, right? This is a, this buckyball is a, a spherical molecule of 60 carbon atoms. Um, the graph- graphene oxide has dangling ends, so readily more able to, um, d- d- d- uh, having endpoints to actually do bo- have bonding, r- whether it's covalent or ionic.

[01:27:42] Chris Burres: So, so very different physically. And th- the thing to think about... Well, let's go back. This is g- this is kinda fun. So Molecule was discovered in 1985, and this is a great origin story. So the reason the molecule was [01:28:00] discovered is there's this guy, Dr. Harold Kroto. He actually was knighted because of the Nobel Prize, so he became Sir Harold Kroto.

[01:28:07] Chris Burres: He's an astrophysicist looking into space at different spectrum, and he found a spectrum that he couldn't identify and theorized that it would be carbon. And at Rice University in Houston, they have this fancy piece of equipment that would shine a laser on a sample, so that would vaporize it. They would use a puff of inert gas to take that vapor into a mass spectrometer and figure out the exact sizes of all the molecules that were made in that puff of gas, right?

[01:28:35] Chris Burres: So fancy piece of equipment. Sir Harold Kroto is convinced if I put carbon in here, I might figure out what's causing that spectrum in space, and Dr. Smalley was in charge of that piece of equipment. This is, this is, this is all the, the gossip behind the discovery of the molecule. So Sir Harold Kroto comes over, he wasn't sir at the time, but he comes over and he says, "Hey, like I wanna put carbon in here."

[01:28:57] Chris Burres: And Richard Smalley says, [01:29:00] "No, like carbon's boring. I'm not gonna put boring carbon in my piece of e- I'm doing sexy things like titanium and exotic alloys. I'm not putting boring carbon." So he goes away. He comes back again, asks a- again, and Dr. Smalley is like, "I don't, I, I don't, I guess I didn't make it clear, like we're not putting carbon in this, you know, boring carbon in this piece of equipment."

[01:29:20] Chris Burres: Finally, the third time he comes back, he asks again, and surprisingly he says no again But one of his grad students says, "Hey, I'm gonna come in over the weekend and I'll put your boring old carbon in this piece of equipment, and we'll look at the results on Monday." So what this is doing, vaporizing graphite, was really making graphene sheets, right?

[01:29:43] Chris Burres: And he noticed this peak at 60 and a peak at 70, a much smaller peak at 70. Um, and he was able to tweak the equipment and enhance those peaks. So the question is, is why would you make a graphite sheet of 60 more prevalently than [01:30:00] 59 or 61, right? Or 71 versus 69? And it's because of the shape, right? So that was the actual discovery of, of the molecule.

[01:30:11] Chris Burres: In that piece of equipment, in our reactor as we're making this, you're actually breaking those graphites down. This is the current theory, right? And you're working at super fast processes at super high temperatures, so we may never really know. Um, but what's believed is you're breaking all of this graphite down to dimers.

[01:30:29] Chris Burres: So there's two, just two carbons in a cluster, and then they start to form. And, you know, without one of these shapes, it doesn't curve. And then once you add the one shape, it starts to curve, and then it creates the 60 carbon atoms in one molecule. So that was just kind of a-

[01:30:44] Luke Storey: I love it. So interesting ...

[01:30:45] Chris Burres: So, so the, the kids, so there was a recently at Rice University, the 40th anniversary of this molecule, discovered 40 years ago It was kinda sad because all of the pres- you know, it's a bunch of scientists, so what do they [01:31:00] do to celebrate the discovery of a molecule?

[01:31:01] Chris Burres: They get together and do presentations. None of them were about the molecule. They were all about nanotubes, right? So the nanotubes are basically take this ball, cut it in half, it, put the end caps out, and then wrap, you know, take a graphene sheet, and now you have a nanotube. Um, but there was one presentation from the two kids.

[01:31:22] Chris Burres: It was actually really two grads- grad students, not kids anymore, um, who actually discovered it and did not win the Nobel Prize. Why? Because the lead scientist always wins the Nobel Prize.

[01:31:34] Luke Storey: Oh, burn.

[01:31:35] Chris Burres: Right? So Dr. Smalley, Dr. Curl, and Dr. Kroto won the No- Nobel Prize, and I, the, actually this is literally just, like, within the last three weeks, I am in contact.

[01:31:45] Chris Burres: They- they've all since passed, but I'm in contact with Dr. Curl's wife. I'm so hopeful I'll be able to get a picture with the Nobel Prize, the, the- Oh, man ... the Nobel Prize of this molecule I've been working with since. That'd

[01:33:57] Chris Burres: No. Just drink it cold.

[01:33:59] Chris Burres: [01:34:00] So, uh, I used to be two to three cups per day. I'm now down to, like, it's really part of my routine. I'm a little nervous to mess with my routine. I don't know if you, you get that way. That's when I take my product. It smells good, it tastes good, all that good stuff.

[01:34:12] Chris Burres: In month two, uh, we really think of it about deep sleep, and the reason I land on deep sleep is... Well, the reason I think it takes two months is because everybody gets a little bit more or less sleep every day, right? Like, we're not all Bryan Johnson getting exactly whatever Bryan Johnson gets in sleep.

We already did an ad hoc study. We had a small cohort of people go through this crossover, right? So we collected survey data 10 days prior to taking it, 10 days on it, 10 days off it, 10 days back on it.

[01:36:24] Chris Burres: Um, the important part, the important result is 100% of participants reported improvements in sleep, so we're doing a more formalized version of that. And then the last, uh, study that we're doing is a wrinkle and age spot study. I don't know if you've had a chance to play with, with-

[01:36:39] Luke Storey: That was my next question.

[01:36:41] Luke Storey: You, you- You're reading my mind, brother. Well, uh, when I got your, um, topicals, I was like, "Ah, they didn't re- " Uh, I didn't do any research, but I was like, I don't know. You know, sometimes supplement companies are like, "Hey, let's just make 50 things 'cause we can sell more stuff." So, uh, I wasn't discounting it, but I was just...

[01:36:59] Luke Storey: It didn't [01:37:00] connect. I was like, "What would C60 do on your skin?" But then I thought about the fact that, um, I've heard some good things about people using it microneedling for hair loss, which I've done with Ion. He had sent me some formula, I think it was a beta test back in the day, and I just kinda fell out of the habit 'cause it made my head so greasy.

[01:37:16] Luke Storey: Yep. Yep. There's like MCT oil all over your head, so you would ruin your pillowcases and so on. It wasn't that practical. But he was very convinced, and then I've heard many other people say that getting, you know, if you microneedle and get the C60 into your scalp, that it's really good at rejuvenating those follicles.

[01:37:33] Luke Storey: So now I remembered that. I was like, "Oh-" Then it would make sense if it's getting into your skin, you know, into your pores, I don't know how many layers deep it goes without microneedling, that there must be some benefit. That said, I've been using it now, um, without really knowing anything about it 'cause I just like the smell

[01:38:06] Chris Burres: So the way... Yes. Well, uh, no, this one is more, more of a lotion.

[01:38:10] Chris Burres: That one's more oily.

[01:38:11] Luke Storey: Oh, really? Right.

[01:38:12] Chris Burres: Yeah.

[01:38:12] Luke Storey: Oh, I got it backwards, okay. Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah.

[01:38:15] Chris Burres: So, so this is interesting. Um, I think I did a decent job of painting the picture that I never wanted to be in the supplement space.

[01:38:23] Luke Storey: Yeah.

[01:38:23] Chris Burres: And then one of our business partners came to us and was like, "We should do a facial product."

[01:38:28] Chris Burres: And I was like, "Yay, that sounds ama- that's what I woke up today 'cause I wanted to do that." And then my director of research came to me and said, "I found this peptide with 50, 30 years, not 50, 30 years of skin and hair improvements in peer-reviewed published research. You should look at it." So I look at this peptide, I'm like, "That's pretty impressive."

[01:38:47] Chris Burres: So we, and I was like, "We need to do a product with it." Um, we call the peptide UTH 29, which is youth 29. Apparently, the age all women wanna stop aging at is 29. Right? Enough sophistication. They're all the youth, right? [01:39:00] I'd be

[01:39:00] Luke Storey: down for that, as long as my brain didn't stop. I mean, right. Yeah. Like- Don't remove the- My 29-year-old brain was really stupid.

[01:39:08] Chris Burres: A lot less. I'd have looked a little better, but yeah. So, um, it turns out the peptide is water-soluble, and we wanted to mix it with our oil-soluble ESS60. We could have shoved those two with, together with an emulsifier. Instead of doing that, we kept them separate. So the way to use this- Ah, okay ... is you actually do two...

[01:39:29] Chris Burres: I do this every day. I don't know if you wanna, wanna try it. You do two drops Of the, I mean, two squirts of the UTH29 lotion

[01:39:37] Luke Storey: So this is the one with the peptide in it?

[01:39:39] Chris Burres: Yes.

[01:39:39] Luke Storey: What makes it blue? Is that methylene

[01:39:41] Chris Burres: blue

[01:39:41] Luke Storey: in it? The peptide. Oh, okay.

[01:39:42] Chris Burres: It's not a colorant. It's the peptide.

[01:39:57] Chris Burres: I move quick. So, so take... That's right. Take two [01:40:00] drops, and if there's anything- Okay ... left, you kind of activate it. Uh, yeah.

[01:40:28] Luke Storey: So then people that don't want toxic emulsifiers on their skin and into their bloodstream eventually have to do the work themselves of just mixing it manually.

[01:40:38] Chris Burres: So you act- I'm

[01:40:38] Luke Storey: glad you explained that, 'cause, you know, I get boxes of stuff from people that are on the show and stuff, which is amazing, but oftentimes I'm just like, I just start- Let me try

[01:40:45] Chris Burres: this.

[01:40:46] Luke Storey: Well, yeah, I just start using it to see if it works, but I'm not great at reading instructions

[01:40:50] Chris Burres: So then, yeah, now you're activating it. Also smells amazing. Um- It does. We haven't, we haven't had anybody kind of share, oh, [01:41:00] oily skin versus dry skin or whatever, but because the, uh, the oil activator is separate, you could make adjustments for anybody who might have oily skin or dry skin.

[01:41:09] Luke Storey: I mean, I... Dude, I put, like, a... What's it called? Uh, tallow, you know. Yep. That's, like, it doesn't get any greasier than tallow.

[01:41:17] Chris Burres: No, it doesn't.

[01:41:18] Luke Storey: I think one of my secrets to not aging as quickly as I probably would have is, like, I never have dry skin. Like, there's always some kind of oil or something- Yeah ... on my face, you know?

[01:41:28] Chris Burres: I think it's a smart strategy. And I've, I've actually added, um, I can't remember the brand, but a little bit of, uh, it's just zinc oxide, um, uh, um, sunscreen. So just a small amount of- Mm-hmm ... kind of natural sunscreen to this kind of concoction.

[01:41:43] Luke Storey: Oh,

[01:41:43] Chris Burres: nice. And so I'm getting a little bit of sunscreen e- every-

[01:41:45] Luke Storey: And what's the purpose of d- of mixing the, the peptide formula and the

[01:41:52] Chris Burres: C60

[01:41:52] Luke Storey: formula?

[01:41:52] Chris Burres: So all the benefits of the peptide, right? So 30 years of skin and hair improvements in, in peer-reviewed published [01:42:00] research, plus all the benefits of the ESS60 molecule. And there are studies out of Japan showing wrinkle improvements, showing, uh, age spot remo- improvements, which is why with the last kind of study we're doing is a wrinkle and age spot study.

[01:42:14] Luke Storey: Oh, okay, cool. Uh, with these studies, you know I talk to people like you all the time, I talk to founders all the time, and I'm like, "Show me the studies. Show me the studies," you know? 'Cause, uh, uh, as much as a kind of, um, non-linear thinker as I am, a more intuitively based person- Mm-hmm ... I guess you could say, I just go off my gut feeling, but I do get some satisfaction and a sense of security, especially when I'm promoting things to the public, that like, I wanna see some data.

[01:42:40] Luke Storey: But the response I get is often, um, who's gonna pay for it, right? These studies are really expensive. And so my question is, if, if you guys, you know, you've been around for a few years, maybe, you know, you got a little cash flow reserve, you can throw it some studies. If you, if you spend the resources, time, energy, money, to do these studies and the [01:43:00] results are positive, which I assume they will be, can some other shyster who's making a really shitty C60 product, like, lean on your study for their marketing, or how does that work?

[01:43:09] Luke Storey: Can you make a study proprietary or kind of copywritten or trademarked or something?

[01:43:13] Chris Burres: Well, so I mean, one of the things that w- you know, the, the... There is no doubt that kind of focusing on ESS60 is a, is a trademark of ours, so that has a business value. Still, our main driver is you throw people into the C60 space, they're gonna be taking Listerine strips, and they're being...

[01:43:32] Chris Burres: They're gonna, uh, share, "Oh, I tried that stuff, it doesn't work." Well no, you just didn't get enough. You didn't try high enough quality. You know, 22 of the brands, um- Mm ... you know, so m- just woefully low and, and, and not brands, but different products on the market. Mm-hmm. Woefully low in concentration. Um, so we can have-

[01:43:49] Luke Storey: In one case, none at all.

[01:43:50] Chris Burres: Yeah. None. Like n- Dude, it- It's, it's literally if you imagine taking, uh, your ink toner, right? The powder from your ink toner, sticking it in [01:44:00] sunflower seed oil, and, and, like, it's black, murky junk, and they are claiming it's C60, and it's not. The

[01:44:10] Luke Storey: thing I don't understand about, um, humans in general that are knowingly deceptive or harming people, like, how do you lay your head on the pillow at night and be able to fall asleep?

[01:44:24] Luke Storey: Like, you know what I'm saying? I mean, if I'm rude to someone just 'cause I'm, you know- Yeah ... it's not my best self- You don't sleep that night ... but yeah. Like, I'm, "Oh, man. I gotta call them." You know, it's like a whole melodrama I'm going through. Not that there wasn't a time in my life where I was, you know, not a great person when I was, um, on drugs and things like that.

[01:44:42] Luke Storey: But it's like, yeah, I just don't get that, that you could... Right, you're gonna hire a team, you're gonna put a marketing department together, you're gonna get a designer to build a website, you're gonna build the back end, your shopping cart. Like, so much goes in to bringing a product to market. It is difficult for me to fathom someone [01:45:00] doing that knowing that they're selling people snake oil just to make money.

[01:45:04] Luke Storey: Yeah. Like, you're just, like, robbing people blind. I don't get the psychology behind that. So my... I, I do have a theory, actually. My theory is- Those people are atheists. And they d- they think that this lifetime is the only lifetime, and so you- And so it doesn't matter ... and so you need to, like, store up all this treasure because once you're gone, you're gone.

[01:45:24] Luke Storey: And I, I think for me, I'm just... It's so clear to me that I'm gonna live on past my body, and whatever I've done here, I don't- not in a Heaven and Hell sense, per se, but loosely that idea-

[01:45:36] Chris Burres: Yeah ...

[01:45:37] Luke Storey: seems to be quite probable to me, you know, just in terms of karma and kind of like if you don't take all your stuff with you that you stole from people while you're here, what do you take with you?

[01:45:47] Luke Storey: Well, the repercussions of everything you did. That

[01:45:50] Chris Burres: you did.

[01:45:50] Luke Storey: Whether positive or negative. So that, that's my theory on it, but still, it's hard to put myself in the mind of someone like that, who's just gonna be like, "Ah, I know my thing is crap, but I'm, I'm gonna make [01:46:00] money, so who cares?"

[01:46:01] Chris Burres: I, I think i- in the, in the case, in this particular case, um, well, well, one, I, I, I, I, um, to some degree, I put my head in the sand and I have a very altruistic view, which is I think the guy believes that he has C60 in his product.

[01:46:16] Luke Storey: Okay.

[01:46:16] Chris Burres: Even though I've proved that it does not. Okay. In fact, he actually has scientific-y papers that if you read them, you'll be like, "Oh, wow, that's proof." And if you know what you're reading, you're like, "Oh, wow, that's proof that he does not-" That's Photoshop. W- well, just... So I'll give you one example. This is j- j- it's just bizarre.

[01:46:34] Chris Burres: So he's got this study where he has three tins. You know, I don't know if you've seen. They're little tins for using on scientific scales. It's a little small- I don't

[01:46:44] Luke Storey: know ...

[01:46:44] Chris Burres: so just a little small aluminum cup, right? Oh,

[01:46:47] Luke Storey: okay.

[01:46:47] Chris Burres: And he's got, hey, here, these three have known samples from different sources of one gram of C60, right?

[01:46:56] Chris Burres: One, two, three, and it's a little tiny pile of C60 in these little tins. [01:47:00] And then he shows his, which is overflowing with the black powder. And he goes, "See? Mine's better." And I like to point out, like Sesame Street, one of these things is not like the other. Which means it's not the other. Right. Like, like that's what it really means.

[01:47:18] Chris Burres: And so there is a collection of people, unfortunately, who are like, "Oh yeah, that's true. Look how different that looks. That's so much better." It's the same molecule.

[01:47:28] Luke Storey: Got it.

[01:47:29] Chris Burres: Yeah. Or well, it's not the same molecule. Like it's supposed to be the same molecule- Yeah, yeah ... and have the same size. Yeah. So, um, it's, it, I do land in the place of altruism where I'm like, "I hope they believe...

[01:47:40] Chris Burres: I think they believe that they're doing the right thing. They just sadly don't know what they're doing."

[01:47:45] Luke Storey: Yeah, I mean, uh, to, to share your, um, you know, wanting to give people the benefit of the doubt, I'm sure there is a lot of incompetence and just lack of understanding at the root of some of these issues.

[01:47:58] Luke Storey: Uh, you know, I don't think everyone is [01:48:00] nefarious and just out- Yeah ... to like screw people for money. But yeah, I think some people, especially, you know, this is very true in academia and science, right? If someone has invested a lot of time into learning something or developing something, even when information is presented that counters their understanding, it's like you kind of, it's too late to let go of that thing because you put too much into it.

[01:48:22] Chris Burres: Yeah.

[01:48:22] Luke Storey: Or it's part of your identity in some cases, right? Yeah,

[01:48:25] Chris Burres: yeah. Your, your skew is, is too heavy.

[01:48:28] Luke Storey: Yeah. So I can, I can, you know, I can sympathize with that. To me personally, I would just take the hit and be embarrassed and I was wrong you

[01:48:34] Chris Burres: know? Yeah. What next? Yeah. And,

[01:48:36] Luke Storey: and- Move on to a, a new project. What, you know, whatever

[01:48:39] Chris Burres: I often say this about us, right? We're an extremely weird supplement company. Most supplement companies don't do research. Even fewer supplement companies, um, publish that research. We published in 2024, 2025, we will be publishing this year, uh, and we're starting these trials. The reason most supplement companies don't do trials is [01:49:00] kind of what you, you alluded to it a little bit earlier is, if the results come out negative, then I have a story like how, like it, the story's making money and I am just absolutely of the opinion I'd rather know.

[01:49:13] Chris Burres: Like I have very little doubt that we'll have positive results on these studies. Um, but I'd rather know and just move on. Like let, let me, like if, if I don't have a legitimate product- I need to know, and it w- that cost doesn't matter. Like-

[01:49:30] Luke Storey: G- could, could, uh, the owner of, say, a supplement company fund and produce a study and get negative results and then just withhold that information?

[01:49:42] Luke Storey: Or are our st- 100%. Are our studies just inherently made public?

[01:49:45] Chris Burres: No, 100%. There's even- That's funny ... th- there's even-

[01:49:49] Luke Storey: I guess you could be doing a study and no one publicly knows you're doing it, right? Yeah. And then you get the results, you're like, "Oh, shit. Let's keep this one quiet."

[01:49:54] Chris Burres: Yeah, we don't need to talk about that one.

[01:49:56] Chris Burres: Um, yeah, and there's, there's even organizations that [01:50:00] will kind of focus on a particular industry and give good results, right? So there are people in the space who have published results from one organization that publishes positive results about that topic. Got it. Period. Okay. Right? So- Got it ... so this is the challenge, right?

[01:50:19] Chris Burres: Like, you, you- this is why th- you're so valuable to so many people is you get, you roll up your sleeves and you get to know them and kind of understand them and, you know, look at where are the studies coming from, because if the studies all come from one place, like, that's interesting. Bit

[01:50:34] Luke Storey: sus. Cool. All right, I got one last question for you.

[01:50:38] Luke Storey: Ready? Who have been three teachers or teachings- Mm-hmm ... philosophies, books, experiences that have impacted you in your life?

[01:50:47] Chris Burres: Three? I need-

[01:50:48] Luke Storey: Yeah.

[01:50:48] Chris Burres: Yeah. Okay.

[01:50:49] Luke Storey: I mean, people have wrestled out of the three. Some are like, "Can't stop at three." Just the first thing that comes to mind.

[01:50:55] Chris Burres: Yeah, no. Well, the first one is my friend Patrick Wanis.

[01:50:59] Chris Burres: Um, [01:51:00] human behavior expert. I kind of describe him as the- the best therapist that I can imagine, and he has a process called SRTT, Subconscious Rapid Transformation Technique. I'm lucky, like, y- y- y- the, the concept that I have a best friend who is also my therapist, probably not normal for most people- ... right?

[01:51:20] Chris Burres: Because he can, he can segment. Like, it's not a, not a problem, and he's there to, to deliver value to people. I... The success of my business, the success of my marriage, the success of my kids, um, I don't put it all at his feet, but a lot of it is there, right? To, to, to help provide the guidance. So absolutely. I was literally on the phone with him for about an hour of the drive up here.

[01:51:42] Chris Burres: Like, he's, he's amazing. Um, the next one that lands, I might not even remember his name. I had a teacher, uh, uh, an algebra teacher, I think it was algebra, maybe, maybe calculus, in high school who was also my soccer coach, and [01:52:00] I just... I, I can't even tell you exactly what I learned from him other J- other than, like, just being a good person and being committed and doing a great job.

[01:52:11] Chris Burres: I think that's, that's absolutely, um, valuable. Which also rolls me into, um- I think I was on a

[01:52:24] Chris Burres: podcast recently and different question, but s- this is gonna be the similar answer. And I've said this before, since I... So I'll just share this 'cause it's kind of funny. So my dad passed away in, in 2019 And I'm very proud that I was able to give a eulogy at, at his, um, at his funeral 'cause s- that's not an easy thing to do.

[01:52:42] Chris Burres: Did you

[01:52:42] Luke Storey: get any words out?

[01:52:43] Chris Burres: I, I did.

[01:52:44] Luke Storey: I did. My dad's

[01:52:45] Chris Burres: Yeah.

[01:52:46] Luke Storey: Like, they pulled me out. They were like practically- ... pulling me off the podium 'cause I couldn't stop crying.

[01:52:50] Chris Burres: Yeah. Oh, I, I definitely- Oh, man ... got, got to that point, for sure. But one of the things that I said, I was in a... I, I was telling this story of being, uh, in a [01:53:00] psychology class, and people were like, "Who's..."

[01:53:02] Chris Burres: There was a particular phrase they have, like, "Who's an, an amazing individual?" Uh, that's not the right phrase, but they had a particular phrase, and people were raising their hands, and I raised my hand, and I was like, "Uh, my dad." Um, you know, which, you know, a c- a young college kid might say. But then other people were like, "Gandhi," "Mother Teresa."

[01:53:20] Chris Burres: I was like, "My dad." Um, and, uh, and, and so yeah, I, I look to my dad, who was definitely flawed, um, but great wor- or taught me great work ethic to really do work for work's sake sometimes, um, and, and to really kind of lean into delivering lots of value. Um, and so yeah, those were... those would be the three that just pop to my mind-
